Demonstration scenario
The demonstration on MMTA included a PowerPoint presentation explaining that MMTA using MOBiNET works in several cities.
For the Bordeaux World Congress, the MMTA project developed an application. The MMTA app, an Android application based on the MTTA xml protocol, could be downloaded from the Play Store. The name of application was B.Tempus (Bordeaux, Tempus multimodal engine developed by IFFSTAR).
The MMTA app had predefined scenarios: transport by car, bicycle, train, share bike, public transport/tram and bus in Bordeaux, urban community of Bordeaux (Bcub)(now called Bordeaux métropole).

  • Departure: choose position ie Parc des expositions
  • Current position: can select directly on map, based on Google too
  • History of last searches (positions)
  • Can select when departure after / arrival before
  • Choose hour and date
  • Select your transport mode
  • Then calculate “Find route”
  • Send request to server, he will send the answers if he has found a route
  • The user will see duration of the route, start time and arrival time, summary of route (i.e. you walk 16min, take tram line C for 30 minutes and at stop you wait 6 minutes and then you walk 4 minutes to destination)
  • For walk you have all the streets and the distance on each street for the walk
  • Wait at the tram, which line to take, where to stop, distance of tram ride and duration of tram ride (you have this for all modes of transport)


Added value of MOBiNET platform
The MMTA broker developed by Swarco in MOBiNET was used as much as possible in the MMTA product from Bordeaux. The xml file from the broker was included in the development. MMTA is a module for the MOBiAGENT that defines xml format for interrogation and return from different MMTA engine in order to have a common format or standard. For example, if you are in Bordeaux or in Vigo, you can use the same application from MOBiAGENT but in the back front, the MMTA engines
used are different. Because the UI was not finished, and in order to prove that common standard works, an independent application B-Tempus was developed based on the MOBiAGENT MMTA standard.

Validation / feedback
People showed interest in the app. App was finished two weeks prior to the Congress and there was no real return of implementation. There was however a beta tester. The result was very encouraging but there was an issue to improve the MMTA engine Tempus: the speed limits in general had not been integrated into the map, with the result that the real time of the trip was longer than what the app said. For public transport and Bcub, the application showed good results. Most of the time, people chose a certain mode of transport out of habit without considering alternatives. This app showed them the best alternative with the result that the trip was shorter (optimised).
The number of downloads was low due to the fact that it was mentioned in the congress app under a button called fuel station. The ones who did download gave positive feedback saying that it was a pretty good product and easy to use.
